Over the past two decades, the alcohol industry has gone all out to tie its products to an active lifestyle. Yet the debate rages on, in part because the industry continues to fund and promote studies indicating that alcohol helps the heart. The NIAAA is currently embarking on another one with $100 million in funding, most of which was solicited directly from the industry, according to the New York Times. The study was planned in consultation with industry leaders and pitched as a way to prove that moderate drinking can be healthy. It is being billed as the most definitive study on moderate drinking to date, but it will likely understate the risks, partly because it won’t run long enough to track any increases in cancer rates. At least five researchers on the project are past recipients of industry money.

We need to come together as a collective and speak out for pigs who are living in a private and deadening hell. The dull and wretched conditions that sows are forced to endure is both legal and cruel. We need a law change so that our recognition of animals (including pigs) as sentient becomes truly meaningful and not just "humane washing".

The only way to ensure to avoid subsidizing animal cruelty, they urge, is to fundamentally revamp our animal protection laws. Until that happens, perhaps the only humane diet, the activists say, is one where we abstain from eating animals altogether.

Multibeam echo-sounder bathymetry data reveal well-preserved fields of large, closely spaced, cross-cutting iceberg scours in present-day water depths of 70 to 100 m (Fig. 3) in the east trough of the Minch. These iceberg scours are concentrated on the surface of GZWs 15 and 16 and are notably absent in deeper water (>150 m below present-day sea level). The iceberg furrows’ large size (length and width) but narrow water-depth range, strong linearity, preferred orientation, and predominantly u-shaped cross-profiles are the hallmarks of an abrupt ice-front breakup or mass-calving event (27, 28), rather than of cumulative iceberg scouring over a sustained period of time (fig. S9). We infer this breakup to have occurred when the retreating ice-stream calving front reached the grounding line (GZW15) during a second ice-front collapse—probably of a partially confined ice shelf or ice tongue. This sequence of events also briefly led to the formation of a deep calving bay between GZWs 15 and 17 as the grounding line temporarily stabilized and the system evolved from an ice stream with an extensive floating ice front to a large tidewater glacier. Evidence of proximal-glaciomarine calving-bay sediments are seen in the thickly draped acoustic facies and rhythmically laminated dropstone-rich muds recovered in cores adjacent to GZW15 (figs. S8 and S9). GZW17 is the innermost and smallest grounding-zone feature in the sequence that, we suggest, records transient grounding of the large tidewater-glacier ice front shortly after the loss of the ice-shelf or ice-tongue section.

Once debris begins to build up on cables or rods, moisture can more easily accumulate, and buildup will continue to grow. The greater the moisture content on the buildup, the more conductive this buildup becomes. 

Manure from the site will be collected twice a week, with Merlott Chitty Farms adding that ‘the use of manure belts ensures that there is never any volume of manure within the building to create an odour nuisance’.
